Calcium pantothenate is the stable calcium salt form of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) and serves as a key B-complex vitamin supplement in animal feed. In the body, it functions as a core component of coenzyme A, widely participating in the metabolism and energy conversion of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, and is essential for maintaining normal animal growth, skin and mucosal health, and neurological function. In livestock production, calcium pantothenate promotes feed utilization, improves coat and skin condition (such as preventing coarse hair and depigmentation in pigs and fur-bearing animals), and supports adrenal function to help animals cope with stress. Deficiency leads to typical symptoms, including growth retardation, dermatitis, and feather disorder in poultry, the "goose-stepping" gait abnormality in pigs, and deteriorated fur quality in fur-bearing animals. Since animals cannot synthesize it endogenously and the content in conventional feed ingredients is easily lost during processing, it is generally added to complete feeds, with particular importance for poultry, young animals, and animals in high-production stages.
