Zinc sulfate monohydrate (ZnSO₄·H₂O) is the most widelyused zinc source in animal feed—zinc is a component or activator of over 300 enzymes in animals, participating in the metabolism of proteins, nucleic acids, and carbohydrates, and directly affectinggrowth and development, reproductive performance, bone formation, skin and hair health, and immune function. When feed is zinc-deficient, pigs exhibit growth retardation and parakeratosis; piglets are prone to diarrhea; egg production and hatchability decline in poultry; cattle and sheep also require additional zinc supplementation due to the low bioavailability of zinc in plant-based feed; and aquatic animals experience slow growth and weakened disease resistance. Compared to other inorganic zinc sources such as zinc oxide, zinc sulfate monohydrate offershigher bioavailability (approximately 60%–80%), a zinc content of about 34.5%–35.5%, and low impurity levels (lead, cadmium), with a moisture content of only about 11%, making it resistant to caking and easy to process and store in feed production. It is an ideal zinc supplement and growth promoter for swine, poultry, ruminant, and aquaculture feeds.
