In animal feed, sodium glutamate is mainly used as an efficient umami enhancer and appetite stimulant. It can significantly stimulate the taste perception of animals (especially through umami receptors T1R1/T1R3), improve the palatability of feed, and thereby increase feed intake. The effect is particularly obvious in young animals or under stress conditions.
